Minor in Collaborative Piano
The Minor in Collaborative Piano aims to captivate students with a keen interest in using their pianistic abilities as a collaborator, whether that is working with singers, instrumentalists, small chamber ensembles or larger ensembles such as choir, band, or orchestra. Through this minor, students will garner basic musical skills as well as knowledge of the many topics and skills specific to collaborative piano. Before declaring a minor in collaborative piano, a student must audition and obtain approval from the coordinator of collaborative piano. Those eligible to audition include music majors with a keyboard instrument as their primary instrument and students with piano performance grants. Note that approval of this minor does not guarantee a place in the required music classes.
The Minor in Collaborative Piano requires students to complete with a grade of C- or better 13 semester hours of the following coursework:
1 MUSIC-033 Sight Reading and Technique
1 MUSC-049 Piano Class IV
1 MUSC-051 Support Skills for Collaborative Pianists
1 MUSC-084 Diction I
1 MUSC-451 Vocal and Instrumental Literature
4 MUSC-019 Collab Piano Lesson (minimum of 4 semesters)
3 MUSC-066 Collaborative Piano (minimum of 3 semesters)
1 MUSC-076 Small Ensemble (chamber music with concert)
0 MUSC-203 Collaborative Piano Performances (minimum of 2 semesters)
